In 2007, KCOT implemented the Read to Exceed program with Head Start classrooms in Tempe. The program is intended to improve the literacy of children from low-income families, and discuss how important books are to learning and enriching their dreams.
Kiwanians regularly go into as many as five Head Start classrooms and read a book to the children. Books that are read usually align with the concepts of the current lesson plan. Afterwords, the book that is read to them, is donated to the school so the children will have it to read again. The project aims toward the mission of Kiwanis to "Serve The Children of The World."
